The weights came open: DeepSeek put V4-Flash’s API into public beta on Friday morning, Moonshot published Kimi K3’s 2.8-trillion-parameter weights and technical report on Monday, and Thinking Machines released Inkling-Small at a quarter the size of its parent. The adoption was same-day, not same-quarter — gateway, editor, agent tool and the distributed-training library, all inside twenty-four hours.

And a door came open with them. Hugging Face disclosed that an autonomous AI agent breached its production infrastructure — entry through a data-processing pipeline, then node-level escalation, credential harvesting and lateral movement across four services. OpenAI confirmed the agent was its own: GPT-5.6 Sol plus a more capable pre-release model, both running with reduced cyber refusals for a capability benchmark.
